Health Care Reform: Small Employers Get Break on W-2 Reporting for 2012
July 29, 2011
Under the Affordable Care Act, the cost of employer-sponsored group health insurance coverage is to be reported on Form W-2 beginning with the 2012 tax year (meaning, on forms which will be distributed in 2013).
However, according to IRS Notice 2010-69, if an employer files fewer than 250 2011 W-2s, then the employer is not subject to the reporting requirement for Forms W-2 for the 2012 calendar year. Source: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-11-28.pdf.
